- Don't delay evacuation. If possible, leave before officials order a mandatory evacuation.
- Select an evacuation destination that is out of harms way but close to your home. You may even want a couple of destinations selected so that you can choose the safest location.
- If possible, plan to stay with a friend or family member. Hotels and shelters will fill up fast. If a hotel is your planned destination point, make a reservations before you leave.
- When evacuating, be prepared to wait in traffic. If you leave early, there should be plenty of time to get out of the area. Allowing yourself to get upset due to traffic will only make matters worse.
- Make sure you fill up your car with gas before you leave. You could be sitting in traffic for hours and you don't want to run out of gas before you get out of the area.
